Clickbank seems to be one of the most popular affiliate programs.

http://www.wealthyaffiliate.com/?a_aid=ZntJZWP9

it has 8 week course to learn more about affiliate marketing, free web hosting, site builder, niche research tools, an awesome forum (offers tons of help and great members that will help a lot) keyword research all for $29.00-$39.00 a month or like$379 for a year its a lot cheaper then other affiliate teaching sites. I would highly recomend it I’ve learned a lot already (of course I didnt know a lot to begin with lol) and its my first week. Good Luck.

It depends on your product or service.

Places like Commission Junction, ROIRocket, ShareASale, etc,

Here are a couple of successful affiliate programs that did it themselves:

http://www.medicalscrubscollection.com/store/pc/NewAffa.asp to sell Medical Nurse Scrub Uniforms
http://www.esrogheadquarters.com/affiliate_account.asp to sell Sukkot and Etrogs for Sukkos
http://www.bestkippah.com/store/pc/NewAffa.asp to sell Kippahs (Kippot) for events and to get them customized.

Well IMO it could be http://www.asseenonpcnetwork.com. They give some of the handsome payouts and its easy to monitor and manage. They target US areas with mostly products as seen on tv infomercials.
